The protein marker Clusterin has been identified as a serum indicator by a large study into Alzheimers. Brain scans over many years have conclusively been shown to demonstrate that by the time a patient demonstrates symptoms of the disease, extensive brain damage has already occured. Measuring the Clusterin level in serum is hoped to give up to 10 years warning of the onset of Alzheimers, before any symptoms are seen.
