Apolipoprotein A2 is a 17.5 kDa protein with a pI of 4.9. Lipids, as such are insoluble in plasma. They combine with apolipoproteins to form lipoproteins and this process solubilises lipids in plasma, providing a transport system for lipids. Apolipoproteins also play an important role in lipoprotein receptor recognition and regulation of certain enzymes in lipoprotein metabolism.
